Our Schools

CSB has successfully established 7 schools for refugee children and teenagers located in the areas of Johor Bahru, Kota Tinggi, Kluang, Pekan Nanas and Muar in the southern Malaysian State of Johor. 2 more centres were opened late 2023 - one in Tongkang Pecah, Batu Pahat and the other in Puteri Wangsa, Ulu Tiram.

Our schools are in partnership with UNHCR (United Nations Refugees Agency) and we use English as a medium of instruction for all subjects except the Malay language. We are also in the process of applying with Ministry of Education to be recognized as an “Alternative Learning Centre”.

rebuilding communities

At the heart of CSB is its relationship with the refugee community living in Johor, especially the vulnerable Rohingya population. Schools and learning centres are so much more than a safe space to learn - they are a window into the day-to-day struggles of fragile communities. They provide opportunities to develop and rebuild communities. In addition to education, CSB provides a variety of programs to empower and build a resilient refugee community.

communication

Through its partnership with UNHCR, CSB conducts regular meetings and consultations with the wider refugee community in Johor. This enables CSB to better understand local issues and to provide refugees with a credible information source.

Health and medical support

Refugees living in Malaysia have limited access to health services. Via its partners, CSB conducts regular health outreach projects to children and their families to provide basic health services such as, family planning, sanitation briefings and health screenings.

skills training

CSB is exploring options to help generate livelihoods such as, computer classes, sewing training and cooking programs to equip refugees with essential skills to supplement their household incomes. Individuals can be matched and sent to job trainings and internships with our partners.

outreach & Community

CSB has built a strong bond with the Rohingya refugee community through its regular outreach and community development initiatives, including food distributions during the holy month of Ramadan.

diverse experiences

School is much more than learning how to read and write. CSB students’ lives are enriched through a diverse range of extracurricular activities, thanks to our generous supporters and partners. These experiences and interactions provide unique opportunities to develop life skills such as, practicing speaking English in an informal environment. Most of all, they are an opportunity for our children to have fun!

EVERY CHILD DESERVES HOPE.
